Engagement photo locations in Trinidad
Trinidad and Tobago is a beautiful twin-island country, filled with a variety of gorgeous backdrops for photos - lush gardens, rugged beaches, a sprawling open field Savannah, even historic houses. There is a lot of real estate to choose from! I’m often asked by my clients to recommend locations for our Trinidad photoshoots and I’d love to share them with you. I’ve rounded up some of my favourite locations throughout Trinidad, both free spots and those with rental costs and contact info.
Parks & Green Spaces
In Port of Spain, you can choose from the Queen’s Park Savannah, the Royal Botanical Gardens, Jackson Square and Wildflower Park. If you want more rugged greenery, head to Bamboo Cathedral or Samaan Park (or anywhere along the Tucker Valley Road) in Chaguaramas.
In San Fernando, Palmiste Park is huge with many photos opportunities.
Beaches
My favourite shoots are on the beach. Along Trinidad’s North Coast, there are so many beaches to choose from. The more popular choices are Maracas, Tyrico, and Las Cuevas Beach. If you’re looking for a more secluded option and don’t mind the drive, consider Yara, Blanchicuesse, and Toco.
EAST COAST TRINIDAD
Along the East Coast, Mayaro is a sprawling beach, so you can definitely find a spot to yourself. The Manzanilla sea front stretch is another great option with coconut trees for miles!
Pro tip - consider an early morning session or a weekday if you want the beach to yourselves!
Mountain Views
Ahh, these are some of my favourites. I always recommend Paramin for those wanting the views of our rolling hills and the ocean. Other great options are Gran Couva, with views of the central range and San Fernando Hill. If you’re up for a little workout, consider the hike to the top of Chancellor hill for panoramic views of Port of Spain and the Gulf of Paria.
Private locations with a rental fee
If you want the place to yourselves and don’t mind the added cost, these are some of the best places that you can visit:
THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Killarney Castle (most known as Stollmeyer’s) and Mille Fleurs are two of the Magnificent Seven properties located along the Queens Park Savannah. Built in the early 1900s, these homes have been restored and are cared for by the TT government. Both properties can be rented for photoshoots, but I must warn that they come at a hot price. This undoubtedly ensures their condition is maintained. For more info, you can contact info@nationaltrust.tt
A third option exists, and that is the privately owned Roomor House, one of the Magnificent Seven. This home is highly sought out by bridal parties because of its classic, black and white French architecture. You can contact roomorvenue@gmail.com to get more information on photoshoot bookings.
Tucked up in the mountains of the Northen Range, NORTH DECK and MAHOGANY RIDGE (located on the same road) offer sweeping views of the ocean and lush landscapes for photoshoots. Both locations are often chosen for weddings and proposals. You can rent them for 2 hours minimum, allowing you time for photos and then to relax and enjoy the views.
I’ve shot weddings, proposals, family photos and more at both locations - great options for any occasion.
If you’re looking to head inland - Ajoupa Gardens in Freeport is a welcomed retreat. It is a private home to pottery makers Bunty & Rory. She and her team run pottery workshops often and their home can be used for retreats. She recently opened it up for photoshoots and I love all the greenery and pathways on the estate!
Another magical spot is Hacienda Jacana - an eco-operated, forest retreat and lodge in Talparo. You can book it for a few hours, but why not stay the night at one of their wooden cottages and wake up with the birds? There is even a beautiful pond on site that you can explore by kayak. With 100 species of bird onsite, it’s a perfect staycation after your photos.
San Salvador Estate must not be excluded from this list. It is a 200-acre estate, situated on the Montserrat Hills in Gran Couva with many lush spots to shoot. They charge $500/hour to shoot on the Estate and all the additional options and contact details can be found here.
For my South peeps, I have to include Wild Fowl Trust, found in Pointe-a-Pierre. This protected area is home to many birds and wildlife, which is often toured by visitors, students and avid bird watchers. It’s a beautiful location and the minimal costs to visit for a photoshoot go towards the upkeep of the facility. You can reach out to them at wildfowltrust@gmail.com for further details.
Apart from these, there are many hotels that will allow you to take photos on their premises if you are staying there, or at a fee. You can ask them what the options are, as they’re always happy to get content to share with future guests.
These are all great choices, but remember your home can also be a fabulous location.
If you’ve got a garden that you’re proud of, or a nearby neighbourhood park - you’d be surprised at how beautiful these simple spots can be. I’m here to show you how we can make any location a beauty!
